Quality of Induction cooktop is NOT up to the mark

The Quality of Induction cooktop is NOT up to the mark. GE Induction Cooktop - I had issues two times in the past 12 months. I installed brand new GE Induction Cooktop in May 2025 as part of my new home purchase. I had issues with the cooktop two times in the very first year. However, GE covered the parts and labor for the first time. but again the same issue occurred after 10 months after first repair. Question is how reliable are GE electric induction cooktop appliances are? Being a customer purchasing the latest and newest model in the current market, I'm concerned about the upcoming repair costs if any in the coming months/years having seen issues two times already in the very first year of purchasing brand new appliance.

Precision Cooking option costs more $.

The cook top works well for heating and responsiveness. With 6 months of use there are some surface scratches indicating that the surface durability is not great as we use protectors all the time. The big complaint is the control. All the pictures and the manual indicate the cook top has precision cooking control. It does if you want to buy a $300.00 probe or very specific cookware for this cook top only. So much for precision cooking and that control is a big problem when you like to cook. If your into cooking, pass the GE brand by and move on as the "Precision Cooking" option requires more cash spent on an already expensive cook top>

I would not purchase this again!

This stove top replaced our previous GE Profile induction stove top we purchased 15 years ago. The new one temp control is awful. There seems to be all on hot/boiling or low heat or low boil/warm, there doesn™€™t seem to be a good in between despite the instructions and what has been explained and demonstrated to us. If you have temp 1/2 way you would expect to have in between boiling and low but I have to keep adjusting the temp to get what I need. I should not have to do this with everything I make. The temp adjustment is touch control, you can use up or down arrows or use your finger and use the round dial feature. I don™€™t like the temp controls, they don™€™t respond as well as my old one no matter how you adjust temp. We had a service call on previous one which due to temperature being super hot or low, no inbetwern. It was replaced with new one, but the new one is doing exactly the same thing. This stove top temperatures are not gradual, no matter where you adjust it, it goes hot and low. I would not get another one, I regret buying this one! My old one was a much better one, too bad after 15 years that one stopped working and repairs cost would have more than a new unit. I know it is a glass top but this model shows everything on it, any splatter, drip or crumb. My old one was also glads but didn™€™t show it as much. I am constantly needing to clean this one no matter what it is used for. The only positive thing I can say is it does heat things fast.

Profile not as efficient as Monogram

I had to replace my GE monogram in an emergency situation and had to go with the GE Profile. The profile does not seem to heat up as quickly. I also find the temperature settings to be too different - when boiling pasta last night, it was either barely simmering or over flowing and wish I could have an interim setting. I am moderately satisfied but wish I could have gone with the Monogram - there is definitely a difference!

Profile Induction Cooktop

I previously owned a GE Cafe Induction Cooktop. It quit working after 6 years. I took it to a GE approved service center. They said it couldn't be fixed. I looked online and found what I thought was comparable to the unit I had, but it was a Profile version. I asked the store manager what's the difference. He inputted the two model numbers and showed me the comparison. It said that the difference between the Cafe and the Profile version was mostly aesthetics. So I bought the Profile version. The Profile version has significantly less power than the Cafe version. What I would typically cook at 50% on the dial of the Cafe version I now have to use approximately 80% on the Profile version. You may save money on the Profile version but you won't have as much heating power.

I like that the burners are not all scrunched so close together, giving room to have multiple pots or pans on the burner at the same time. sometimes I just need to lift the pan off the cooktop, for whatever reason. the burner turns off. although it's not a dealbreaker, it is a pain to have to restart the heating button. boiling water can take a little longer than it would with gas burner. if I had a choice between a gas or induction cooktop, this would not have been my choice.

I am not happy with the functionality of this cook top. It seems to only work well on high, but not very well if you just want to simmer food. I am disappointed because my regular glass cook top seemed to work better then the induction cook top. But you don't know until you try it.

Easily scratched

The cooktop is easy to clean, which is a plus. But after only 6 months of use we have permanent scratches in the glass cooktop. We're careful with the cooktop and I'm not sure how we could have avoided the scratches. The surface is too delicate for the intended purpose. I worry about how long it will look good. Way too expensive to be a throw away appliance! The other negative to this appliance is that the controls for temperature are very restrictive. I've yet to figure out how to operate the cooktop at a true medium temperature. The digital control doesn't allow for micro adjustments. It's either above medium or below medium. The digital controls seem to jump in increments of two or three.

Original cooktop worked great for a few months, then started turning off (all burners) within a few seconds of turning on. GE had service rep replace most all parts. Still did not work. GE finally provided new cooktop (as replacement on 2/11/25. Without cooktop 1.5 months. Rating for NEW cooktop is 5.

We had a GE Profile Induction cook top that was 17 years old and a couple of the units had a fail code of E6. The parts were no longer made so we could have it repaired. We ordered a NEW GE Profile Induction cook top and are happy with the style upgrades and the one button turns all off at the same time. Another feature we have not fully investigated is the remote use with the phone app. Seems great.

I was a die hard natural gas cooktop lover. However, since I cook almost every day, I was doing a lot of cleaning of the grates and the stainless steel deck. After doing much research, I decided to go Induction. Yes that meant investing in some new compatible cookware as well. I really like the increased control of temperature on all 5 cooking positions. I can simmer or boil on all of them. Cooking is much faster as well. Finally, clean up is a breeze. My 36™€ Profile unit also looks amazing every day. Overall, I don't know what took me so long to make this change. No regrets at all.

Just installed and love it! We used to have propane, which was nice, but the induction stop top is like a spaceship compared to our VW bus! Heats in a fraction of the time and it looks very sleek.

Nice looking top. It is a replacement for another GE induction top. Bigger fans on this model should keep the electronics cooler. It does not heat up quite as fast as our last one though.

Stopped working

The cooktop stopped working 2 weeks after installation. GE support came out and told us that 3 electronic boards were not responding. Parts on order.

Good stove, but disappointed by advertising

This is a beautiful cooktop, as described by others. It was easily installed (note: it doesn't plug in... you'll need an electrician). I was a little disappointed at how small the small burners were, but am making do. The one major flaw is that all of the pictures show temperature control. We had tested induction with a cheap single burner, that also used temperature control. It was amazing and we were excited to move ahead. This is not as powerful...and, you can only get temperature control with smart pans or a separate probe. One of the reasons I went with induction was environmental...I also changed by pans. Aka, no smart pans (which were fine on our cheap single burner). So, now to get temperature control, I'd need to buy 5 probes...which would prevent lid closures. It seems silly and is a little frustrating. That said, the 11 setting high to low settings will be like a normal stove. Just not as awesome as we were hoping. Also, with all of this in mind, the app just allows you to monitor the stove...not, adjust anything. My hubby was excited to cook from the porch. Instead, he just has me telling him to turn things up or down (think backseat cooking...poor guy!). I will note that now that we have it, we dug further and realized the company did say this. It's just not overly obvious, so I'd want the next buyer to know. While it's a good stove, I wouldn't buy it again, knowing what I do now.
